Every relationship is shaped by patterns—ways of communicating, interpreting, connecting, and responding that form the ongoing story between two people. Some of these patterns strengthen intimacy and trust; others create tension, misunderstanding, or emotional distance. Narrative profiles help you see these patterns clearly so you can understand both the challenges and the strengths present in your marriage.
This framework offers an informal and compassionate way to explore your relational story. It highlights the places where connection feels healthy and life‑giving, and it gently names the places where growth or healing may be needed. Most importantly, it shows how God meets you in every part of your narrative—bringing clarity, restoration, and renewed hope.
Narrative profiles are meant to guide you gently through understanding the patterns that may be shaping your relationship. You can explore them on your own, with your spouse, or alongside a counselor or pastor. Each profile includes a clear description of the pattern, how it affects connection, and how God invites you into healing and renewal. You don’t need to rush or analyze everything at once—simply begin with the profile that feels most familiar and let it open space for honest reflection and hopeful conversation. These profiles are most helpful when used in connection with our workshop.
Every relationship contains both broken and redeemed patterns. The negative narrative profiles help you identify the places where communication, trust, or connection may feel strained or confusing. The positive narrative profiles show the grace‑filled alternatives—the areas in your marriage that are already healthy and strong or what the relationship can look like when healing, clarity, and God’s presence reshapes the negative patterns. Together, they can offer a snapshot of your relational story: where pain has taken root, where strength already exists, and where God is inviting transformation.
Each set of narrative profiles is organized into eight core categories that reflect the most common relational patterns couples experience. Each category includes both a negative narrative and its positive, God‑centered counterpart. As you explore them, you’ll begin to see how these patterns interact, overlap, and influence the way you communicate, connect, and understand one another. Choose any category to begin, and let it guide you toward deeper insight, renewed hope, and a clearer sense of how God is shaping your story.
